Notice of Cybersecurity Incident

Local 506 has been recently made aware of a malware attack which has impacted our former benefit administrator, Global Benefits. Global Benefits was the third-party responsible for administering the Local 506 Benefit Plan until November 2017.

The malware attack has led to a data breach which has potentially exposed the confidential information of members enrolled in our benefit plan prior to November 2017. While the extent of the data breach is still unknown, Global Benefits is taking proactive steps to ensure that any impact to members is minimized. This includes reporting the incident to law enforcement authorities, increasing cybersecurity safeguards and providing free credit monitoring services to affected members.

Impacted members can expect to receive notices in the mail over the next several days. To be clear, members who were not enrolled in benefits prior to November 2017 remain unaffected.

In the meantime, we would encourage all members to monitor their accounts for suspicious activity and to contact law enforcement should incidents arise. We also recommend two-factor authorizations on sensitive accounts and updating passwords frequently.

Rest assured that Local 506 is doing everything in our power to ensure that our memberships’ information is safe-guarded to the highest degree. Should you have questions or concerns, we encourage you to contact Global Benefits directly.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.
